THE HACHETTE WINE GUIDE 2011
Riesling Grand Cru Rosacker 2007*
Fifty years ago, Francois Sipp from Ribeauvillé and Marie Louise Mack from Hunawihr married and the Sipp Mack Winery was founded. During the 80s, Jacques Sipp worked in American wineries and returned to Alsace with Laura, a UC/Davis graduate. The couple currently cultivates 15Ha of vineyards. This includes 1Ha of the very renowned Grand Cru Rosacker.
These Riesling grapes produce expressive wines, like this 2007, with a deep golden color, an intense nose of over ripe grapes and candied prunes. The aromas are confirmed on the palate: rich, ample with a lasting finish. This wine can be paired with a fish in a crème sauce or scallops today but will be great in the future as well. (Residual sugar – 7 g/l)
Gewurztraminer Sélection de Grains Nobles 2007**
Situated in Hunawihr, the heart of the Alsatian wine road, Sipp Mack unites Old World and New World knowledge since the arrival of Laura, a UC/Davis graduate. Their late harvests have been selected for this guide many times. Here, one finds another jewel: golden yellow, this wine opens with notes of over ripeness and hints of Christmas fruit cake (spices, apricots, pears, raisins, citrus rinds and hazelnut) The palate is well balanced, a bit sweet for the moment, but very agreeable. The very long finish is full of honey and sweet spices. May be aged more than 5 years. (Residual sugar: 147 g/l – 50 cl bottles)
